Department of Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. led the launching of the Bamboo Textile Fiber Innovation Hub (BTFIH) in Barangay 20-S Mabaleng, City of Batac on July 3. A project that is expected to create new opportunities for local communities through bamboo-based innovation and livelihood development.
Established through the collaboration of the Department of Science and Technology and the City Government of Batac, the facility converts raw bamboo into eco-friendly textile fibers for yarn spinning and other textile applications. The project aims to maximize the use of bamboo, an abundant resource in Batac, while creating new economic opportunities for local farmers, weavers, and communities.
Barangay Mabaleng is known for its bamboo-based products under the One Barangay, One Product (OBOP) program, making it an ideal location for the innovation hub.
Joining the launch were Congressman Angelo Marcos Barba, Asec. Ana Carmela Ventura-Remigio, DOST officials, city officials led by Mayor Mark Christian “Markee” R. Chua, members of the Mabaleng Agrarian Reform Cooperative led by President Wilbert Lagmay, Punong Barangay Jonathan Laud, and members of the local community.
