Raising awareness of the city government’s commitment to combat malnutrition and sustain food security, the City Government of Batac puts the spotlight on this year’s Nutrition Month celebration. A series of activities engaging the different sectors of the community underscored the theme for this year, ‘Making a Health Diet Affordable for All’.

The city government through the City Nutrition Office conducted a cooking competition which highlights the squash as the main ingredient, poster slogan making contest for elementary schools, and nutri jingle video contest for secondary schools. These competitions were aimed at strengthening the campaign on supporting Filipinos to have accessible, inclusive , secured and healthy quality of life.

To further strengthen the city government’s nutrition campaign, weighing scales were distributed to all the barangays, and vitamins and micronutrient powders to nutritionally at-risk preschoolers.

During his message, Mayor Albert D. Chua emphasized that adequate nutrition should be given priority all year round and not just in the month of July.

Furthermore, Vice Mayor Windell D. Chua, reiterated the importance of choosing the right and nutritious food for children most especially at home.

July of each year is celebrated as Nutrition Month nationwide by virtue of Presidential Decree 491 in 1974 to create greater awareness on the importance of malnutrition.
