The 2023 Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament concluded tonight with Barangay Aglipay taking home the championship title after a 75-69 win in the second game of the best-of-three series against Barangay Rayuray. The victory was sealed at the fully packed Imelda Cultural Center.
Both Barangay Aglipay and Barangay Rayuray had maintained an impressive record throughout the tournament, with no losses during the eliminations. However, the strength and determination of Barangay Aglipay, led by Punong Barangay Jeff Lawrence Franco, Sk Chairman Mark James Bangit, and Head Coach Anthony Roman Mata Jr., proved to be unbeatable.
Barangay Rayuray, although falling short in the finals, had an outstanding tournament run and secured the position of first runner-up.
The second runner-up was claimed by Barangay San Julian, who secured victory over the third runner-up, Barangay Palpalicong.
Adding to the triumph of Barangay Aglipay, Anthony Mata was awarded the Finals Most Valuable Player.
This season’s mythical five were: Mark Kelvin Lumaguip of Barangay Palpalicong, Chris Angelo Oducayen of Barangay San Julian, John Brylle Mico Puyot of Barangay Rayuray, Lord Wayne Bajo of Barangay Aglipay, and Joshua Arcangel of Barangay Aglipay.
The tournament was organized by the City Government of Batac, led by Mayor Albert D. Chua, through the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation and the Local Youth Development Office.
