Awarded as the Champion, the Empanada Festival of the City of Batac emerged victorious at the Tan-ok ni Ilocano: Festival of Festivals 2024, held at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium in Laoag City, February 16.
Batac City also bagged minor awards including Best Production and Best Female Performer through Janneli Erica Urnos in her character as The Madame.
The Empanada Festival’s first win at the Tan-ok ni Ilocano was in 2011, during its pilot implementation.
This year, the city’s delegation showcased a captivating performance featuring Nena’s journey in Hong Kong, wielding her culinary expertise to foster friendship within diverse cultures. The elaborate production enamored the audience and judges alike, resulting in the victory.
Beating the other municipalities and cities of the province, the City Government of Batac is overjoyed at the tremendous achievement.
City Mayor Albert D. Chua expressed his immense gratitude to the dancers, propsmen, parents, schools, designers, choreographers, and all departments and people that were involved in the crafting of the grandiose performance, standing proud of the culture, artistry, and talent of the Batacqueño.
Hosted by the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, Tan-ok ni Ilocano is an annual event where the municipalities and cities of the province get to present their own festival’s story and unique traditions.
