The City of Batac Inter-Barangay Basketball League 2023 officially commenced on July 15, igniting the spirit of competition and camaraderie among the city’s basketball enthusiasts. After a long hiatus, this eagerly anticipated basketball tournament is back in action with the participation of all 43 barangays of the city.
Unlike previous seasons where teams were divided into four brackets, this season will only see one team emerge victorious from the entire 43 teams, adding an extra layer of challenge to the tournament.
In addition to the Imelda Cultural Center, games will be hosted by select barangays, showcasing their infrastructural developments such as their basketball courts.
A parade marked the opening of the tournament, with the players, muses, and barangay and SK officials who showcased the athletic spirit of their respective teams.
In his message, Mayor Albert D. Chua expressed his gratitude to the organizers led by the Sangguniang Kabataan and Local Youth Development Office, and to the barangay officials and all participants for successfully coming up with this endeavor which promotes discipline, sportsmanship and unity among the constituents.
The opening ceremonies also featured the cheers and yells of every team, alongside a lato-lato exhibition from each barangay representative.
The opening game was played between Barangay Dariwdiw and Barangay Payao, with the score of 95-75. Barangay Dariwdiw dominated the first game.
