BATAC EMBRACES ECO-FRIENDLY CRAFTSMANSHIP WITH BURI/SILAG HANDICRAFT WORKSHOP

·

Highlighting the creativity and craftsmanship of the Batacquenos, the City Government of Batac headed by Mayor Albert D. Chua rolled out a two-day Buri Handicraft workshop using the silag leaves. Silag is a locally grown tree that is abundant in Barangay Colo where the training was conducted.

The workshop saw the creation of environmentally-friendly products such as bags and pouches. These can serve as unique souvenir items or daily accessories.

It involved 30 participants from Barangay Colo, and was facilitated by the Office of the City Agriculturist in collaboration with the Del Mar Shellcraft Multipurpose Cooperative from Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.

This initiative aims to uplift the local handicraft industry of the city but also offers an additional livelihood for residents and enriches the city’s tourism offerings.

Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod graced the training site, vowing support for the continuity of this program and marketing the products.
