CGB launches Paralympic during National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week

To champion equality and foster inclusivity, the City Government of Batac, led by Mayor Albert D. Chua, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office, headed by Ms. Marneli P. Sabas, Acting CSWD Officer, conducted a series of activities during National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week (NDPRW). The theme for this year’s celebration is “Promoting Inclusion: Celebrating Abilities and Advocating Access.”

The main highlight of the celebration was the launch of the Paralympic Games, which aims to promote four core values – determination, equality, inspiration, and courage. This event was geared towards overcoming language, physical, and social obstacles through games to nurture a sense of unity and sportsmanship among Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Selected PWDs from the 43 barangays participated in the event. They were clustered into eight groups and competed in five Laro ng Lahi: bottle relay, bottle flip relay, ball relay, longest line, and dama game.

In addition to the Paralympic Games, the city hosted a Sign Language Seminar/Training and a Recognition Ceremony for PWD graduates. Participants included CSWDO staff, PWDs, and their respective Committee on Social Service Chairmen, Child Development Teachers, and City Employees.

Thirty (30) PWD graduates from the Alternative Learning System (ALS), Elementary, Junior, and Senior High School were honored with certificates of recognition and tokens.

These events aim to focus on the abilities and talents of PWDs, emphasizing their valuable contributions to society.

The Paralympic prizes were awarded as follows:
1st Place – Php 30,000 – Cluster 8 (Nalupta, Cal-laguip, Ablan, Cangrunaan, Caunayan, San Julian)
2nd Place – Php 27,000 – Cluster 5 (Palongpong, Baoa East, Baoa West, Camandingan, Rayuray)
3rd Place – Php 25,000 – Cluster 1 (Pimentel, Colo, Aglipay, Mabaleng, Magnuang, Tabug)
4th Place – Php 23,000 – Cluster 4 (Naguirangan, San Mateo, San Pedro, Capacuan, Biningan)
5th Place – Php 21,000 – Cluster 3 (Palpalicong, Valdez, Ben-agan, Ricarte, Parangopong)
6th Place – Php 19,000 – Cluster 2 (Camguidan, Sumader, Quiom, Maipalig, Payao)
7th Place – Php 17,000 – Cluster 7 (Barani, Lacub, Acosta, Bungon, Dariwdiw)
8th Place – Php 15,000 – Cluster 6 (Baligat, Quiling Sur, Quiling Norte, Baay, Bil-loca)
